Tale

Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that leads them to become lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law in “Skeleton Crew” and more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neel’s younger siblings is the same one that Chewbacca’s family watches in the infamous The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978). Although Skeleton Crew is aimed at children to attract the next generation of Star Wars fans, it surprisingly appeals to older viewers as well. In this Star Wars series, four children discover a buried spaceship in the forest on At Attin, a peaceful and prosperous planet hidden in a galaxy full of pirates, greed, and chaos.

Luckily, the ship has a beat-up droid to help guide them

Eager for adventure – at least some of it – the children accidentally activate the ship and find themselves lost on the other side of the galaxy. But because the kids live in hiding, they often get into trouble. While it’s unmistakably Star Wars, Skeleton Crew feels like an ’80s kids’ adventure movie — think The Goonies — but set in space. Longtime fans will find it full of nostalgic touches, from the equipment and spaceships to the alien creatures, all reminiscent of the original trilogy. Diehard fans will also love the many Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the film that bring back fond memories of the franchise’s early days.

The young actors, while less experienced, do a decent job

I especially appreciated seeing younger versions of the various alien species we’ve seen in previous films. It makes the galaxy feel more connected, showing that some alien races are permanent fixtures rather than one-off appearances. There are also some funny cameos, like a brief glimpse of a boy who looks like a young Kylo Ren. These little details keep you hooked and wanting to see more. Jude Law, the biggest star of the cast, doesn’t appear until the end of the second episode, so it’s hard to judge the overall quality of the acting early on.

The special effects are flawless, leaving nothing to criticize

The two main kids stand out, reminding me of their performances in classics like The Goonies and Stand By Me. One of the four kids is an inhuman alien, making it difficult to judge their acting, and another wears a cybernetic visor that hides most of their facial expressions, reminiscent of Geordie La Forge from Star Trek. The production quality is top-notch, and the Disney budget is clearly visible. However, the episodes are quite short, and the long credits—over five minutes—seem excessive. With only eight episodes in the season, I’m worried that the story might not move forward if the pace doesn’t pick up significantly.

Despite these concerns, Skeleton Crew was a pleasant surprise

It’s fun, nostalgic, and engaging for all ages. I’m excited to see where the story goes next, and I’m glad it offers something for even adult fans of the Star Wars universe.
