The life of a young glassblower in training and his relationships over the years as his country goes through war and strife. This is Pakistan’s first hand-drawn animated film. BEFORE you get mad, read my review until the end and think about it. Glassblower is a good film, I’m not going to lie and I’ve been following it for the last 4-5 years. But I knew from the beginning, being Usman Riaz’s debut film, that the story would have its problems and oh my goodness, there were a lot of them. The ending was confusing to say the least as a lot of the film’s plot was missing and the film wrapped it up pretty quickly. It also didn’t feel ‘original’ as Usman Riaz had taken inspiration from Ghibli which actually made the film feel ‘too’ Ghibli inspired. I know this is his first film, but if he had been original with it, it would have been better and also made it more natural and soothing rather than quickly summarizing it. IF you really want to see what a “MASTERPIECE” looks like (like people here are shouting this film is, even though it isn’t), go see HAYOA MIYAZAKI’s first film “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind”. Or “Castle in the Sky”, then you will truly understand the art of animation and the beauty of a true masterpiece story. The critics here are totally wrong in saying this is the “best film ever”, I have seen a lot, I mean A LOT of animated films and especially Japanese ones, because I love their natural 2D illustrations. I am quite picky about my animated films and this one was an easy 7/10. The main reason being that while the animation was beautiful and enjoyable, the story lacked a lot and seemed a bit amateurishly written + not to mention the Urdu dubbing of the movie, which had no natural feeling whatsoever. I highly recommend watching the movie in ENGLISH rather than URDU, because the original script of the movie is in English, because of that, the Urdu one felt like a Google translation lol.
